Drugs to avoid in conjunction with Botox

Aspirin, Nonsteroidal antiInflamatory drugs and Vitamin E can all make bruising more likely

Any drug that interferes with neuromuscular activity should be avoided with Botox.
This includes AminoGlycoside antibiotics, curare, lincosamides, polymixin antibiotics, quinidine, magnesium sulphate, anticholinesterases and succinylcholine. This is obviously up to a good physician to check with you.

Thefollowing are the medical conditions you must know about before having Botox

Do not have Botox injections if you have a peripheral motor neuropathic disease or meuromuscular functional disorder.
Examples of these are Eaton-Lambert syndrome and Guillain Barre syndrome (you would probably know if you had these!)

Pregnancy – although inadvertent use has not resulted in any reported deformities, it would be wise to advise Botox in pregnancy or breast feeding.

Botox is a wonderful drug, and continues to be highly effective in wrinkle reduction and prevention – but it is not without risk – You need to be aware of the dangers and risks, and should ensure that you are fully informed before anyone approaches you with a needle.

Botox eyebrow lift

Botox , in skilled hands, can actually elevate a drooping brow. This is quite a common finding in men who have heavier brows, and som judiciously placed Botox just under the lateral eyebrow can be very effective.

This brow is drooping

But, one of the real challenges with Botox is getting the shape of the eyebrow correct. Too much and the brow droops – too little and there is no effect – wrongly placed and you end up looking like Mr Spock, or even worse with an eyelid droop. You really need to be careful with this procedure, and, as always a well trained physician is essential. This is too important an area of your face to be leaving it to ameteurs!

Botox for lips

Hi – Dr Raymond Lister here.

Botox doesn’t have a huge place in the lips. This is mainly the region for fillers.

However, Botox can be very useful in tiny doses around the lips to soften and weaken the transverse lines that smokers so often get. This is because the lips are surrounded by a muscle called Obicularis Oris, and when this contracts, the lips crinkle.

Lip lines - the result of repeated puckering

If you keep crinkling the lips (smokers!) you shouldn’t be surprised to find that you are getting lots of lines that make your lipstick bleed.

You can sort this with a few Botox injections, but you need to very careful since too much can cause you not to be able to close your mouth properly – VERY important for trumpet players, oboe players, whistlers and those who like drinking soup!
