Botox for Migraines

Botox may also be helpful for treating migraine.

It seems that this effect goes beyond muscle paralysis and may actually interefere with the transmission of nerve pain signals.
In one study, 48 patients with chronic migraine were evaluated and given from 25 units to 100 units of Botox at several sites, including the forehead, temples and sometimes the back of the neck and the shoulders. Three months after the injections, patients responded to a disability evaluation score.

58 percent of the patients had above  50 percent reduction in disability.

The average decrease in headache frequency was 61 percent;

in severity it was 27 percent, and in disability it was 79 percent.

92% success

Another researcher found a success rate as high as 92 percent with migraine patients using Botox Injection.

Even with this spate of studies, some experts say it’s not enough, and obviously more studies are needed.

In a small study of 24 patients, 75 percent of patients experienced 4 to 6 months of migraine relief following injections of Botox to muscles of the face and head .

Botox can help some migraines

Botox was injected into the muscles of the brow, eyes, forehead, side of the head and back of the head near the neck, and  induced sometimes immediate headache relief for up to six months. These patients had long-standing diagnoses of migraines, had all seen neurologists, and were taking standard migraine medications.It would be wrong to suggest that your migraine could be cured by Botox, but it seems it certainly can reduce the frequency or severity of attacks.

You might like to ask your physician if he is happy to inject your temples or other trigger points .

Interesting…..   Depression and Botox

Using Botox to smooth away the frown lines of clinically depressed patients can help them to recover, US researchers found. Nine out of ten depressed patients were no longer depressed two months after Botox treatment on their frown lines.
